Lionsgate’s Deepwater Horizon has lost one director and found another.
J.C. Chandor has fallen by the wayside with Peter Berg now in talks to replace the director who has A Most Violent Year in theaters, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
Creative differences are being cited. The project was facing casting delays to due the lateness of Chandor’s rewrite, according to sources, which was initially due before the Christmas holidays.
Mark Wahlberg remains onboard to star in the project, whose story is set on Deepwater Horizon, BP’s oil rig in the Gulf. In April 2010, it caught fire and exploded, killing 11 crew members and resulting in the largest offshore oil spill in United States history.
Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian are producing.
Berg has redeemed his movie cred after the Battleship debacle with last year’s Lone Survivor action thriller.
Chandor is known for the Robert Redford drama All Is Lost and Margin Call.
