The film centers on idealistic but flawed New Orleans congressman Colin Price (Cage), who in the wake of the 2010 BP oil spill is forced to confront his dysfunctional life after his career is destroyed in a sex scandal.
Fonda will play his father, the former mayor of New Orleans, while Nielsen will play his wife, a high-powered attorney with her own political ambitions. Batt will portray a Wall Street financier who caters to big oil companies, and Pierce will play Price’s Chief of Staff. Sarah Paulson will also star as a PR executive hired to rehabilitate the Price’s image.

Produced by Paper Street Films and Back Lot Pictures, The Runner is the writing and directorial debut of Austin Stark, a producer and executive producer of indie films whose credits include Happythankyoumoreplease and this year’s Sundance hit Infinitely Polar Bear.
“I couldn’t be more excited to collaborate with Connie, Peter, Bryan, and Wendell. It’s going to be thrilling to watch the authenticity and complexity these incredible actors will bring to the world of this timely political drama,” Stark said in a statement.
