Emir Kusturica Words of Gods - H 2013
MEXICO CITY — Peter Gabriel is composing music for Words of Gods, a collaboration of nine religion-themed shorts from renowned international directors.
Gabriel, who scored Martin Scorsese’s The Last Temptation of Christ, is a perfect fit for a film that explores world religions, said producers Alex Garcia and Guillermo Arriaga. Words of Gods also has the participation of Nobel Prize-winning author Mario Vargas Llosa, who pitched in as a creative consultant.
Serbia’s Emir Kusturica (Underground), Japan’s Hideo Nakata (Dark Water), Iran’s Bahman Ghobadi (Turtles Can Fly) and Mexico’s Arriaga (The Burning Plain) are among the multiple filmmakers contributing shorts to Words of Gods.
This is the first installment of four socially minded feature films being produced under the Heartbeat of the World project. Each one revolves around a common theme: religion, sexuality, politics and drug addiction.
In the same vein as the collaborative effort Paris, je t’aime, which bowed at Cannes in 2006, the film’s producers are in talks to land a world premiere at a top-tier festival, preferably in Venice, Berlin or Toronto.
In each segment the directors take turns looking at important organized religions throughout the world.
“Religion has divided us when it should unite us,” said Arriaga, winner of best screenplay at Cannes for the Tommy Lee Jones-directed The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada.
The commercial release for Words of Gods is slated for 2014.
