Peter Jackson has been named the recipient of the 2013 IBC (International Broadcasting Convention) International Honor for Excellence, which is the highest honor that the organization bestows.
The award recognizes an individual or organization for fostering the relationship between technology and creativity in the broadcast, movie or media industries.
The Oscar-winning director has innovated in areas from visual effects to high frame rates. The second movie in his Hobbit trilogy, The Desolation of Smaug, opens Dec. 13.
James Cameron, Jeffrey Katzenberg, David Attenborough, Aardmann Animation, BBC Natural History Unit, the research arm of Japanese public broadcaster NHK, and Olympic Broadcast Services managing director Manolo Romero are among the previous recipients of the award.
The 2013 IBC Conference kicks off Sept. 12 in Amsterdam.
