Peter Rice Elevated to Head of Fox Networks Group

News Corp. has announced that it is promoting Peter Rice to chairman and CEO of the Fox Networks Group.

Rice, who has been serving as chairman of entertainment for the division since 2010, will be overseeing decisions on programming and operations for Fox Broadcasting Company, FX, Fox Sports, Fox International Channels and the National Geographic Channels.

“The contributions that Peter has made to News Corporation over the years are immeasurable,” said Chase Carey, president and COO of News Corporation in a statement.

Before working at Fox Networks Group, Rice served as president of Fox Searchlight, where he oversaw such films as Slumdog Millionaire, The Wrestler, Little Miss Sunshine, Sideways and Juno. Born in the UK, Rice graduated from the University of Nottingham and began working for Fox in the late 1980s. He’s worked his way up at the company, starting as an intern. He’s also spent time as an executive vice president of production at Twentieth Century Fox.

Among those now reporting to him will be Fox Networks Group president and COO David Haslingden and president of distribution Mike Hopkins, both of whom previously reported to Carey.

In addition, News Corp. has also announced more restructuring as David Hill, who has served as chairman and CEO of Fox Sports since 1999 will now become a senior executive vice president at the company.

From his seat in Los Angeles, Hill will focus on programming, digital initiatives and other opportunities across the globe at News Corp.
