Philip Seymour Hoffman struggled with “demons” according to diary entries written by the late actor, who was found dead of an apparent drug overdose Feb. 2.
Entries in two diaries found by the NYPD feature hand-written notes about his struggle with “demons,” drug deals and his attempts to stay clean by attending Narcotics Anonymous meetings in Lower Manhattan, NBC News reported exclusively.

It seems some of the entries were written during Hoffman’s 2013 stint in rehab, according to NBC News.
“It seems he did at least part of it in rehab,” a source told NBC News about the diaries. “”It definitely contained some soul-searching. But there is also a fair amount of rambling that doesn’t make sense.”
The hand-scrawled entries are also hard to read, with parts of them perhaps written while he was high, a source told NBC News.
The pages feature handwriting that begins clearly before becoming illegible and sentences that run into each other.

“It’s stream of consciousness and difficult to follow,” another source told NBC News. “In one line he refers to ‘Frank who always owes money’ and on the same page he writes about a 15-year-old girl from Texas.”
Cops also found books about Truman Capote, whom Hoffman portrayed in his Oscar-winning role in 2005’s Capote.
Hoffman was found dead with a needle in his arm in his New York City apartment on Feb. 2. Cops also found several envelopes of heroin, used and unused syringes and prescription drugs.
