A teaser trailer and voice cast for Pixar’s upcoming Italian Riviera-set animated feature Luca has been revealed, with Jacob Tremblay (Room) as the titular character Luca Paguro, described as an inventive 13-year-old sea monster with endless curiosity, especially when it comes to the mysterious world above the sea.
Also leading the voice cast are Jack Dylan Grazer (We Are Who We Are) as Alberto Scorfano, a free-spirited teenage sea monster; Emma Berman as Giulia, an outgoing adventurer who befriends Luca and Alberto; Maya Rudolph (Saturday Night Live) as Daniela, Luca’s mother; Marco Barricelli as Massimo, Giulia’s father; and Jim Gaffigan (The Pale Tourist) as Lorenzo, Luca’s father.
Luca is described by Disney and Pixar as a coming-of-age story about a boy experiencing an unforgettable summer filled with gelato, pasta and endless scooter rides with his newfound best friend, but all the fun is threatened by a deeply held secret: they are sea monsters from another world just below the water’s surface.
Directed by Enrico Casarosa (writer and director of the studio’s 2012 Academy Award-nominated animated short La Luna) and produced by Andrea Warren, Luca is slated for a June 18 domestic release.
