David McCann, who served as Disney’s senior vp postproduction from 1986-2006, died of pneumonia Jan. 18. He was 69.
Before Disney, McCann spent about 12 years as vp postproduction at ABC Motion Pictures and ABC Circle Films. His credits as a postproduction supervisor include Silkwood (1983), The Flamingo Kid (1984), Prizzi’s Honor (1985) and the 1985 pilot for the ABC series Moonlighting.
McCann edited 12 episodes of ABC’s Mod Squad in the early ’70s and served as an assistant editor on the 1967 film Doctor Dolittle.
“David was a true gentle soul,” said friend Herb Dow, a fellow postproduction veteran. “As a leader in the post industry and friend to all, he mentored so many young editors and assistants, encouraging and promoting many into their careers. We will always remember and miss him.”
Survivors include his wife, Leonell; two daughters, Mya and Maxine; and a sister, Celia Arden.
