Fernando Leon de Aranoa’s English-language debut A Perfect Day starring Benicio del Toro, Tim Robbins, Olga Kurylenko and Melanie Thierry has been the subject of a slew of pre-sales for U.K. based sales and finance banner WestEnd Films.
The film details the story of four aid works in conflict zones who are involved in a race against time to save the water supply of a divided community.
WestEnd has sealed deals for France (TF1/UGC), Germany (X- Verleih), Benelux (WildBunch), Switzerland (Praesens), Israel (United King), Middle East (ECS), Greece (Spentzos), Malaysia (Suraya), South-Africa (M-Net) and Ex-Yugoslavia (VTI).
A Perfect Daymarks the third collaboration between de Aranoa’s banner Reposado and Jaume Roures for Mediapro, who are producing the $9.5 million (€7 million) movie.
WestEnd’s managing director Mata Amsellem commented: “Fernando’s endearing script had already been extremely well received by the marketplace prior to Cannes. Buyers immediately responded to the first footage we unveiled at the festival, validating the film’s life affirming quality and unique payoff: achieving human profundity via off the wall comedy.”
Principal photography recently wrapped in Spain on May 23. The film is scheduled for delivery at the end of 2014.
