Universal Pictures has confirmed a release date for thriller The Purge 3 in 2016.
The third film in the horror series, which expands on the terror that ensues during the 12 annually sanctioned hours that allow citizens to commit any and all crimes, will be released Jul. 1, 2016.
The Purge, which starred Ethan Hawke, hit theaters in May 2013 and The Purge: Anarchy, which featured Frank Grillo, followed a year later in July 2014. Together, the two films earned a successfully frightening $200 million at the worldwide box office.
James DeMonaco wrote and directed the first two and has signed on to write the third film.
Warner Bros.’ Tarzan and Buena Vista’s The BFG are both slotted to release the same day.
