Evan Agostini/Getty ImagesTORONTO – Randy Quaid will escape the Hollywood “star whackers,” after all, and extradition back to the U.S. for that matter.
Santa Barbara County district attorney Joyce Dudley on Friday confirmed the U.S. Department of Justice denied a bid to bring the Hollywood actor and his wife, Evi Quaid, back across the border to answer for skipping a California arraignment hearing over charges that they squatted in their former home.
“In declining to seek extradition, the USDOJ noted the resource intensive and lengthy process involved in seeking extradition from Canada,” Dudley said in statement.
“They further stated that extradition is generally reserved for more serious offences than that with which the Quaids have been charged,” she continued.
The Quaids first arrived in Vancouver last October after fleeing an arrest warrant in Santa Barbara, and what they deemed “Hollywood star whackers” out to murder them.
Randy Quaid has been allowed to stay in Canada for a new life because Evi Quaid has Canadian citizenship.
