Rama’s mission isn’t over yet.
Titan Comics has teamed with director Gareth Evans and XYZ Films to create a new line of comics based on Evans’ high-octane action movies The Raid: Redemption and The Raid 2, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
The new comic books will be developed by Titan and Evans and feature original stories featuring characters from the Raid movie series, with a tentative launch date of late 2016. “Gareth is a visionary and a huge talent,” said Titan editor Martin Eden in a statement from the publisher. “It’s a pleasure to work with him on developing his characters for the comic book page. We promise to deliver the same thrilling, fifth-gear adrenaline that fans have come to expect from the franchise.”
The original Raid movie debuted to critical praise at the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival, with THR describing it at the time as “a whole mess of bone-crunching, face-pummeling, throat-slicing and fist-pounding awesomeness.”
That movie was followed in 2014 by The Raid 2, which saw Rama, the protagonist of the first movie played by Iko Uwais, go undercover to fight both police corruption and gangs in the criminal underworld.
A third movie in the series is in development for a potential 2018 release. Titan plans to release more information about The Raid comic book series, including naming the full creative team, soon.
