Arnon Milchan’s New Regency Prods. has extended its exclusive distribution deal with Fox Filmed Entertainment an additional nine years through May 2022.
The extension was announced Monday by New Regency co-chairmen Hutch Parker and Bob Harper and FFE chairmen Jim Gianopulos and Tom Rothman. Fox has been Regency’s worldwide distributor since 1998.
Since the beginning of its relationship with Fox, Regency has produced 55 films that have generated more than $5.3 billion at the box office. Regency has seven movies slated to begin production in 2011 and is eyeing a return to TV this year.
Upcoming titles include Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son, starring Martin Lawrence and Brandon T. Jackson, set for a Feb. 18 release; the comedy What’s Your Number? starring Anna Faris and Chris Evans; Monte Carlo, produced by Denise Di Novi in partnership with Fox 2000 Pictures; the 3D thriller Darkest Hour, starring Emile Hirsch and co-financed with Summit Entertainment (which is handling domestic distribution while Fox International distributes in the rest of the world); and Now, a thriller from writer-director Andrew Niccol and starring Justin Timberlake, which will be released in the fall.
In addition, Regency will again partner with Fox 2000 on another installment of the Alvin and the Chipmunks franchise, Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked, directed by Mike Mitchell and scheduled for a Christmas release.
“Arnon Milchan is a multifaceted, passionate enthusiast for all he touches. He is an Israeli businessman, an Israeli political enthusiast, a Hollywood producer and a remarkable art collector. He is a loyal and generous friend who also happens to be a great long-term and trustworthy partner,” News Corp. chairman Rupert Murdoch said.
Said Milchan: “Rupert, Chase Carey, Tom [Rothman] and Jim [Gianopulos] are more than partners, they’ve become like family. The relationship we’ve forged and our track record together speaks for itself. I’m incredibly proud of all we’ve accomplished and believe that our best years are yet to come. I cannot imagine a better relationship.”
