Alice’s (Milla Jovovich) battle is nearly done.
The first trailer for Sony’s Resident Evil: The Final Chapter shows the hero determined to finally rid the world of the undead. The Final Chapter sees Alice return to The Hive in Raccoon City to face off against the Umbrella Corporation, which is gathering forces for one final strike against humanity. Alice isn’t keen on letting them succeed.
“We’re going to kill every last one of them,” she remarks at one point. At another, she does battle against Dr. Isaacs (Iain Glen) while jumping over the movie series’ trademark lasers.
The film is the sixth in the video game adaptation’s series, with Paul W.S. Anderson returning to direct. Last year, speaking to Heat Vision for an oral history of his first film, Mortal Kombat, Anderson said he’d stuck with Resident Evil since 2002 partially because of the conflicting feelings he had about leaving Mortal Kombat after the 1995 film.
“Looking back on it, I went, ‘Ah, maybe I should have done it,’ ” he said of 1997’s Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, with which he was not involved. “It’s one of the reasons why on a go-forward basis, when I became involved with Resident Evil, I felt if I’m going to do another one of these adaptations, this time I’m going to stay with it. I’m going to really stay with the franchise and shepherd it. Ironically, me not doing Mortal Kombat II is kind of the reason I’ve ended up doing Resident Evil one, two, three, four, five, six.“
Resident Evil: The Final Chapter is set for a Jan. 27, 2017, release.
