After the end of Prometheus, audiences might have been left wondering just what the connection was between the engineers and the familiar xenomorph from the Alien movie series that showed up at the end. Director Ridley Scott promises that all will be revealed — as long as audiences are patient enough.
In an interview with German site FilmFutter, Scott said that the Prometheus series — he’s currently working on a sequel to the 2012 movie — will connect back to the Alien series, but not for awhile.
“It won’t be in the next [movie],” he told the site. “It will be the one after this one, or maybe even a fourth film, before we get back into the Alien franchise.”
Yes, Scott’s just revealed that he plans for Prometheus to continue for at least three movies if not more — and he also shared what the series is about, as well. “The whole point of it is to explain the Alien franchise and to explain the how and why of the creation of the Alien itself,” he explained. “I always saw the Alien as a type of biological warfare. For me, the original spaceship that I call the croissant was a battleship that contains these biomechanoids creatures, that are all about destruction.”
How these plans connect with Neill Blomkamp‘s own Alien plans — if at all — remains a mystery for now. But now it’s clear that Michael Fassbender‘s David has quite a long journey ahead of him before he finds what he’s looking for.
