Lochlyn Munro, who played Betty Cooper’s father on Riverdale, has joined the cast of Peacemaker, HBO Max’s series spinoff of James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad.
Stage actor Chukwudi Iwuji, who will be seen in Barry Jenkins’ upcoming limited series Underground Railroad, has also joined the case of the series as have Annie Chang and Christopher Heyerdahl.
Gunn is writing the series and directing several of the episodes, with John Cena reprising his Squad role of Peacemaker, a DC character named Christopher Smith. Smith is a man who “believes in peace at any cost — no matter how many people he has to kill to get it,” according to HBO Max’s description.
The adventure-comedy series will shoot in Vancouver in January with Gunn and Peter Safran exec producing.
Danielle Brooks, Robert Patrick, Jennifer Holland and Chris Conrad are already on the call sheet.
While plot and broad story arcs are being kept holstered, it is known that Munro will play a detective. Chang is also a detective while Heyerdahl has the rank of captain. Iwuji plays man named Clemson Murn.
In addition to Riverdale, Munro recently recurred on shows The Good Doctor and Seal Team. He also just wrapped production on Netflix comedy Love Hard with Nina Dobrev. Among his feature credits are titles such as White Chicks, Dead Man on Campus and A Night at the Roxbury.
He is repped by Northern Exposure, Buchwald and Angie Edgar at Alchemy Entertainment.
Iwuji previously starred in Othello for The Public Theatre’s Shakespeare in the Park. Chukwudi’s performance in The Low Road, directed by Michael Greif, earned him an Obie Award, as well as 2018 Lucille Lortel and Drama League nominations. An Associate Artist of the Royal Shakespeare Company for his numerous Shakespearean performances, he has also received two Olivier awards for his titular role as Henry VI in the RSC’s 2009 productions of parts I, II, and III. He is repped by Gersh, Authentic Talent & Literary, and Granderson Des Rochers.
Chang recurred on the past two seasons of NBC’s Shades of Blue opposite Jennifer Lopez. Previous credits include Netflix’s Master of None, CBS’ The Jim Gaffigan Show, and Netflix’s House of Cards. She is repped by Buchwald and Untitled.
