Sally Potter’s all-star dark comedy The Party has found a U.S. home.
The film, which first bowed in competition at the Berlinale earlier this year, has been picked up by Roadside Attractions, with plans to release it in North America in February. Great Point Media, which backed the film alongside representing sales, announced the deal Friday.
Starring Kristin Scott Thomas, Cillian Murphy, Patricia Clarkson, Timothy Spall, Bruno Ganz, Emily Mortimer and Cherry Jones, The Party was universally praised after screening in competition in Berlin (it currently boasts a 100 percent Rotten Tomatoes score).
“Sally Potter’s The Party may be one of the most witty, outrageous, biting, and entertaining movies that we have ever acquired for Roadside Attractions,” said Roadside co-founders Howard Cohen and Eric d’Arbeloff. “It has an outstanding cast who take enormous pleasure sparring on screen, physically and verbally. We loved the film from start to bloody finish.”
Alongside North America, Great Point Media has also struck a raft of international deals, including Weltkino (Germany), Picturehouse (the U.K.), Eurozoom (France), Filmcoopi (Switzerland), Avalon (Spain), Academy 2 (Italy), Mis Label (Scandinavia), Madman (Australia/NZ), Alambique (Portugal), Aurora (Poland), Feel Good (Greece), Falcon (Middle East), Lev Films (Israel), Filmarti (Turkey) and Jaguar for airlines. The company will be taking the film to Cannes to complete global sales, with multiple deals already in negotiation.
The Party is backed by Great Point Media (Christine, Complete Unknown) and produced by Adventure Pictures, Potter’s production company with long-term partner-producer Christopher Sheppard, along with Kurban Kassan (20,000 Days on Earth, Ginger and Rose).
“Great Point is thrilled to be working with Sally and Adventure Pictures in bringing Sally’s unique and brilliant film to audiences around the world,” said Great Point president Jim Reeve. “We have been overwhelmed by the positive reaction to the film both domestically and internationally, and want to congratulate Sally on what we believe is her best work yet.”
