Robert Kessel has been named senior vp production at Matt Tolmach’s new production company, Matt Tolmach Prods., where he will work with the former Columbia Pictures exec to oversee development and production of the company’s slate of films.
Kessel most recently was exec vp production and acquisitions at Overture Films, where he oversaw the production of such films as Let Me In and the acquisition of titles like The Visitor and Sunshine Cleaning. Prior to that, he was a partner and production head for seven years at Hart Sharp Entertainment. He also served previous stints at Miramax, Chao Inc. in Los Angeles and New Line Cinema.
Since becoming a producer late last year, Tolmach has been producing The Amazing Spider-Man and acquiring material to develop like Frankenstein, The Slackfi Project and Kitchen Sink.
“Though I only met Robert earlier this year, I’d known of him for a long time,” Tolmach said. “He is well respected for his great taste, extensive skills and relationships with filmmakers. He is going to be a tremendous asset to our company, and I’m thrilled to have him on my team.”
