While Robert Pattinson has been at Cannes with his new film, David Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis, reports began spreading that he was being considered for a role in the latest young adult books-to-films hit franchise, The Hunger Games.
As a star of the Twilight movie franchise, Pattinson is no stranger to fan hysteria. But, when he heard about the reports that he may be up for the role of returning champion Finnick Odair in The Hunger Games sequel, Catching Fire, he had to find out if it was true for himself.
“I was kind of curious for a second. So I called my agent,” Pattinson, 26, tells USA Today.
“My agent was like, ‘No,’ ” and then adds laughing, “(My agent) was like no one’s going to offer you that part… I was like, thanks for the reassurance.”
The news should make some of the franchise’s fans happy. As the reports spread, enough people used the hashtag #PattinsonisnotFinnick on Twitter for it to trend on Thursday.
At any rate, Pattinson would seem a bad physical fit for the role. In Suzanne Collins’ novels, which the franchise is based on, Finnick is a handsome, muscular and blonde former champion of the books’ win or die competition.
Other actors who have been floated, though not confirmed, as possibilities for the part include Daniel Newman, Zac Efron, Jesse Williams and Chace Crawford.
