Robert Rodriguez will write, produce and direct his first animated feature, Ugly Dolls, which is also the first animated feature from STX Entertainment.
Based on the plush toy franchise from Pretty Ugly, the film also has a release date of May 10, 2019.
Rodriguez, who is currently working on James Cameron’s Alita: Battle Angel, is known for titles including Sin City, Spy Kids and El Mariachi.
During the STX slate presentation Tuesday at CinemaCon, the studio also reported that there’s “great excitement” for retail merchandise based on the property and that STX is in talks with toy makers.
