Roger Deakins’ lensing of Blade Runner 2049 earned him the British Society of Cinematographers’ award for best cinematography in a 2017 theatrical release.
Earlier this year, Denis Villeneuve’s futuristic thriller delivered British-born Deakins his first Oscar after 14 nominations, as well as a BAFTA award and the American Society of Cinematographers award for features.
In claiming the BSC Award, Deakins topped a field of nominees that included Bruno Delbonnel for Darkest Hour; Dan Laustsen for The Shape of Water; and Ben Davis for Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.
Deakins’ next film is The Goldfinch, the John Crowley-helmed adaptation of the best-selling novel of the same name by Donna Tartt. It’s currently in postproduction and slated for an Oct. 11, 2019, release.
