The Notebook director Nick Cassavetes has been tapped to write and helm Road House, MGM’s remake of the 1980s film that is being fashioned as a vehicle for MMA champion Ronda Rousey.
The 1989 original starred Patrick Swayze as a New York City bouncer who takes over security at a small rural bar. But stitches pile up when the bar becomes the target of a corrupt businessman.
Joel Silver produced the original, which was directed by Rowdy Herrington.
Cassavetes’ biggest hit is The Notebook, the tear-jerking love story that starred Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams. He also directed the female-centric revenge comedy The Other Woman that starred Cameron Diaz and Leslie Mann.
But he also helmed the Denzel Washington drama John Q and the crime drama Alpha Dog, whose cast ranged from Justine Timberlake and Anton Yelchin to Bruce Willis and Emile Hirsch.
