German director Oskar Sulowski has won this year’s Made in Germany — Perspektive Fellowship for his feature film treatment Rosebuds.
Sulowski will receive $17,4000 (€15,000) toward the development of a screenplay based on his idea for Rosebuds, a drama about two brothers — one a junkie, another a petty criminal — whose encounters with a young Catholic girl change their lives.

In a statement, the Made in Germany jury said the one-line pitch makes Rosebuds “sound like a cliche [but] Rosebuds touches upon all the big questions of life: birth and death as well as the search for meaning in between.”
German watchmaker Glashutte Original is the backer for the Made in Germany prize, now in its fourth year, which aims to support up-and-coming German filmmakers.

In addition to the cash bursary, Sulowski received a trophy manufactured by Glashutte Original at a ceremony in Berlin.
