Rovio’s feathered franchise has already conquered a galaxy far, far away in the two Angry Birds Star Wars games, and now the company is teaming up with another fan-favorite science fiction franchise with the announcement of Angry Birds Transformers, a pairing that actually will be more than meets the eye — or, at least, more than just an app.
In addition to a mobile app teaming Hasbro’s long-standing franchise with the Rovio aviary, the Angry Birds Transformers brand will also appear on licensed merchandise and a new line of Telepods — figurines that can be “teleported” into the appropriate game — to be launched in September this year, expanding the product line debuted last year with Angry Birds Star Wars Telepods.

“We’re really excited to combine the iconic Transformers universe with the quirky world of Angry Birds,” Blanca Juti, chief marketing officer of Rovio, said in a statement accompanying the news. “This mashup is going to appeal to both those who grew up with the brand in the ’80s as well as fans of the brand today. People are going to love it!”
Hasbro’s chief marketing officer, John Frascotti, added that his company has “collaborated with Rovio to create opportunities for kids and families to experience Autobirds and Deceptihogs across multiple formats and entertainment platforms for a completely immersive branded experience.”
Yes, Autobirds and Deceptihogs. You read that right.
More information about Angry Birds Transformers will be released at the 2014 Las Vegas Licensing Expo, which runs June 17-19.
