Russia Box Office: ‘Spectre’ Stays On Top for 2nd Week

Enthusiasm for British spy tradecraft remains strong as the latest in the James Bond franchise, Spectre, held pole position in the Russian box office for the second week running.

The film grossed 182 million rubles ($2.8 million) over the weekend, giving it a cumulative $9.1 million since its release here in late October.

Local animated fairy tale, Savva: Heart of the Warrior, executive produced by Fedor Bondarchuk, a family cartoon about the adventures of a small boy who fearlessly helps his village break free from vicious hyenas, debuted to take second place at an impressive $1.45 million, reflecting the popularity of high-quality, locally produced animation.

There was little change from last week further down the charts, according to data provided by analysts Movie Research, with Columbia’s cartoon Hotel Transylvania 2 dropping one place to third with $676,000 and The Last Witch Hunter down one run to fourth at $670,000.

Kitchen drama Burnt, directed by John Wells and starring Bradley Cooper as a chef recovering from drug abuse determined to regain his culinary crown, came in at fifth place with $670,000.

Space adventure The Martian — which had been in the top five for five weeks in a row — dropped to 10th place, with takings of $160,000.
