Universal Pictures International is Russia’s top distributor for the first nine months of 2015, according to data from the research company Movie Research.
Universal’s releases grossed a total of 8.72 billion rubles ($134.9 million), followed by Twentieth Century Fox CIS, which raked in 7.1 billion rubles ($109.5 million).
Walt Disney Studios Sony Pictures Releasing CIS (WDSSPR) was in third place with 6.2 billion rubles ($95.9 million).
Karo group, whose Karo Premiere distributes Warner movies and Karo Prokat is a distributor for local films, was fourth among Russia’s largest distributors. Its releases grossed 4.8 billion rubles ($72.2 million).
Another Russian company, Central Partnership, which distributes Paramount fare alongside local movies, was fifth, with its releases grossing 4.6 billion rubles ($71.1 million).
Universal reached the top spot for the first time in years. The successful performance was achieved thanks to several successful releases, including Minions, the year’s top performer at the Russian box office so far this year and Russia’s second-highest-grossing movie of all time.
Currently, five movies on Russia’s top-10-grossing films, including Furious Seven, Jurassic World, Fifty Shades of Grey and Seventh Son, were released by Universal.
Fox and WDSSPR have two top-10 releases each, and Central Partnership has one.
