‘Rust and Bone’ Team Takes Home First of Cesar’s Technical Awards

Mikros Image took home the first of France’s Academy of Arts and Technical Sciences awards at a ceremony Monday night in Paris.

“We’re not the leader [in size] so it’s great to have recognition,” said Mikros Managing Director Gilles Gaillard of his 250-strong VFX team.

“We’ve collaborated with really important people this year like the team behind Rust & Bone, so it’s really great to be able to work with people that are making key projects in the world and still have the opportunity to be here in France,” he told The Hollywood Reporter after the ceremony.

Mikros worked with director Jacques Audiard to create all the effects in the movie, including the physical transformations of star Marion Cotillard.

Mikros also took home the top prize last year. “Since it’s the second time, the real challenge is finding somewhere to put it,” he joked.

Gaillard accepted the award from Academy president Alain Terzian, and Cinema, Audiovisual and Multimedia Federation (FICAM) president Thierry de Segonzac. The ceremony was coupled by a raucous party that recognized all Cesar-eligible costumers, set decorators, editors, cinematographers, and sound engineers.

Voted on by all members eligible for technical awards, the individual award is for overall technical excellence and innovation in filmmaking. The remaining technical prizes will be announced at the Cesar ceremony on Feb. 22.
