Ryan Reynolds on Saturday celebrated the fifth-anniversary of Deadpool by sharing a “lost” letter he penned to a fan shortly after the 2016 film was released. The movie was a massive box office success as Marvel fans had been clamoring for years for the hilarious, violent, foul-mouthed comic character to get his due on the big screen. Reynolds was the only choice in their eyes.
And always the jokester, much like his character, Reynolds could not help marking the occasion with some on-brand (hilarious) wisecracks.
“Five years later, I’m still in awe of Deadpool fans. Hunter wrote me this letter after #Deadpool came out and somehow my response never got mailed. Holds up. Mostly,” Reynolds said via social media. His post included two letters: one from Hunter and a reply from Reynolds. Both pieces dated 2016.
Hunter thanked Reynolds for the film and giving Deadpool fans a rated R film in which the character could finally be realized from the pages of the comics.
Reynolds’ “lost” reply thanked Hunter along with peppering in silliness, such as noting he was glad the film could be made the way he envisioned. “Can you imagine if Deadpool was with the [Marvel Cinematic Universe] at Disney? Hahahahaha.” Of course, Deadpool is now a Disney character with the conglomerate’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox. Fans are eagerly awaiting word on Deadpool 3.
Among the other jokes, Reynolds notes that his wife, actor Blake Lively, is pregnant with their second “and last!” child (they now have three daughters), that he’s an excited investor in the Fyre Festival (a total disaster) and he can’t wait for DP3 to come out in 2020, so he can be among the fans giving “handshakes and hugs” (pandemic).
