‘Deadpool’: Ryan Reynolds Celebrates Groundbreaking Golden Globe Nomination with “Early Morning Tickle-Fight”

Honestly, how else would you celebrate a Golden Globe nomination? 

Ryan Reynolds on Monday said he and the Deadpool team were celebrating their film’s nomination from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association with a “grotesque, early morning tickle-fight.”

And damn right. Deadpool marks the first live-action superhero movie to be nominated in either of the Best Motion Picture categories. (The Incredibles was nominated in the Best Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy Category in 2004.)

“I was changing a diaper, as I always predicted,” Reynolds told The Hollywood Reporter when asked where he was when he earned his Globes nom.

He continued: “I thought, ‘When that call comes in I am going to be staring down the barrel of something nasty.’  We have an eight-week-old and one under two, so it was a bit of a circus and I could hear my phone pinging, so I know something really terrible or really great had happened because my phone isn’t that active” 

The raunchy, anti-superhero flick was a huge hit with critics and audiences, and now it has the chance to win some coveted major award hardware for both the film (nominated for Best Picture — Musical or Comedy) and Reynolds (nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy).

Of Deadpool’s ground-breaking nomination, Reynolds said, “It just makes us feel like, ‘Well maybe we weren’t so crazy.’ I share these accolades with [writers] Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick and [director] Tim Miller. We all had this feverish and relentless belief in this character and this world so this is super gratifying to know that we weren’t insane.”

The actor is currently working on the follow-up to burgeoning Fox franchise.

“I am in the room right now with Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick and we are just hammering away,” Reynolds said of the sequel scripting process. “But I am sure we are all just gonna behave like complete assholes until we get it together and start working again after lunch.”

Reynolds is up against Colin Farrell (The Lobster), Ryan Gosling (La La Land), Hugh Grant (Florence Foster Jenkins) and Jonah Hill (War Dogs).

Deadpool fans were already in a tizzy from an interview Reynolds gave to Entertainment Weekly recently in which he said he wants his “merc with a mouth” character to work with Hugh Jackman again (and, you know, get it right this time…) 

“I want Deapdool and Wolverine in a movie together,” Reynolds told EW. “What we’re gonna have to do is convince Hugh. If anything, I’m going to need to do what I can to get my internet friends back on board to help rally another cause down the line.”

Reynolds said he is a big fan of Jackman’s, which makes sense considering all the love jokes made throughout Deadpool. 

“Hugh Jackman is one of the best human beings,” he said. “Part of the reason I want to do a Deadpool/Wolverine movie is not just because I think the two would light the screen on fire but I genuinely love the guy.”
