Following the departure of Pam Abdy as president of production, New Regency is in early talks to hire Michael Schaefer, who previously worked for Ridley Scott’s production banner Scott Free, as her replacement. Sources say the talks are very early.
Schaefer joined Scott Free in July 2012 as president, where he oversaw production and development. The company’s recent projects include Drake Doremus’ Equals and Sony’s Concussion starring Will Smith. He also is an executive producer on Kenneth Branagh’s upcoming adaptation of Murder on the Orient Express. Schaefer, who was on The Hollywood Reporter’s Next Gen list in 2010, previously worked at Summit Entertainment.
Abdy, who joined New Regency in 2013 from Scott Stuber’s Bluegrass Films, announced her exit earlier this week. Her departure follows Brad Weston, who left as CEO of the company in May.
