Sean Astin, Tom Arnold, Jake Busey and Rhys Coiro are starring in Dead Ant, an indie horror comedy being directed Ron Carlson.
Also in the movie, currently shooting in Santa Clarita, are Danny Woodburn (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turles), Michael Horse, Leisha Hailey (The L Word), and Cameron Richardson (Murder in the First).
The script, also by Carlson, tells of a down on their luck hair metal band that gets a chance for a comeback with an appearance at Coachella. However, the group gets sidelined in the desert and must fight for their lives against giant ants.
Astin is the band’s roadie while Arnold is their manager. Busey and Coiro are part of the band.
Carlson, Stephanie Hodos and Mark Hodos are producing the creature feature, which is being exec produced by Matt Luber, Fleur Roberts and Ron Martino. This is the first of several planned movies by Luber, a partner at Luber Roklin Entertainment, is developing with the Hodos and Carlson.
Carlson previously directed the comedy All American Christmas Carol which starred Taryn Manning and Wendi McLendon-Covey and produced the horror movie Unnatural about genetically modified polar bears.
Astin, who appeared in horror TV series The Strain, is repped by Innovative Artists, Luber Roklin Entertainment and Bloom Hergott.
Arnold is repped by ICM Partners.
