TORONTO – Canadian director Seth Smith’s horror pic Lowlife picked up the audience award for best feature at the Atlantic Film Festival.
The black-and-white debut feature about a lonely musician’s descent into heavy drug use bowed at the Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal, before impressing audiences in Halifax, where the Canadian director shot Lowlife.
And Revolution, Rob Stewart’s follow-up to his award-winning Sharkwater film, picked up the audience award for best documentary in Halifax after the environmentally-themed film bowed in Toronto.
On the jury front, local Nova Scotia director Jason Buxton won for best director, best screenwriter and best Atlantic Canadian feature for Blackbird.
The dark drama about an isolated teen facing accusations of planning a school massacre that terrifies a small town last week shared the best debut feature prize at the Toronto International Film Festival with Brandon Cronenberg’s Antiviral.
