The cast of the young-adult drama The Fault in Our Stars reunited on Thursday to commemorate the addition of one of the movie’s most memorable props to the Fox Studios lot: the bench where Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort‘s characters share an intimate moment during the film.
The bench, which was created by a Los Angeles-based artist and will remain a permanent fixture on the Fox lot, is a replicate of the one used while filming on the Leidsegracht in Amsterdam. The now-famous “landmark” overseas is covered with messages from visiting Fault in Our Stars fans and even went temporarily missing over the summer.
In addition to co-stars Woodley and Elgort, director Josh Boone, screenwriters Michael H. Weber and Scott Neustadter and author John Green were also on hand to celebrate the film’s recent $300 million global box-office success. Fox 2000 Pictures president Elizabeth Gabler thanked the Fault in Our Stars family for their dedication to the film: “I feel like everyone of you has made our lives so much richer and so much more profound. And we will always cherish the memories of making this film and seeing all of you sacrifice and make the effort that you did to make it possible.”
Attendants of the dedication ceremony cheered as Woodley and Elgort then snipped a large ribbon across the decorated bench. “It’s like cutting the cake, guys!” said the actress, laughing. The young stars later closed the event by re-creating their near lip-locking scene made famous by the film and its accompanying posters.
