The popular video game franchise Shinobi will be developed for a movie adaptation by Marc Platt Productions and SEGA’s Stories International Inc.
The first Shinobi game hit video arcades in 1987. It centers on protagonist Joe Musashi, a ninja who appears as the main character in several the subsequent sequel games. After training as a ninja from a young age, he fights against an evil crime syndicate called ZEED. He was a popular video game character especially in the late 1980s and early 1990s as one of SEGA’s mascots.
Marc Platt and Adam Siegel will produce alongside Stories president and CEO, Tomoya Suzuki. Evan J. Cholfin at Stories will oversee the project as a development executive.
“We love the Shinobi games and believe that the world of ninjas has never been properly explored onscreen. We now have the opportunity to do just that. With Shinobi, we hope to make a film that honors the essence of the games and brings this fascinating world to life for moviegoing audiences,” said Platt in a statement.
