Fox and The Simpsons will offer a virtual reality experience for its upcoming couch gag, Planet of the Couches, airing in 2D on Sunday, Oct. 16, during Treehouse of Horror XXVII, the 600th episode of the animated series.
Produced with Google Spotlight Stories, a VR version of Planet of the Couches will be available on Oct. 16 through the Google Spotlight Stories app on Android and iOS devices, viewable with Google Cardboard.
To help fans see the couch gag in VR, there’s 25,000 limited edition Google Cardboard viewers available for order on a first-come, first-served basis, via simpsonscardboard.com.
The Google Spotlight Stories program involves filmmakers exploring storytelling with 360-degree and VR technologies. Projects have included the live-action Help, directed by Justin Lin (Star Trek Beyond), and Special Delivery from Aardman Animations.
