Joseph Gordon-Levitt is in final negotiations to star in Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.
While the movie is an adaptation of one of Frank Miller’s notable stories from the 1990s, Miller and filmmaker Robert Rodriguez have added a new storyline specifically for the movie.
STORY: ‘Sin City 2’ Adds Jaime King and Jamie Chung
Gordon-Levitt will play a newly created character called Johnny, a smooth-talking gambler. The part was originally written for Johnny Depp (hence the name).
Mickey Rourke, Jessica Alba, Jaime King and Rosario Dawson are among those returning. Jamie Chung is replacing Devon Aoki and Dennis Haysbert has replaced the late Michael Clarke Duncan for the sequel, which has been shooting in fits and starts since early November.
The start-stop nature is part of Rodriguez’s approach to the production, which is still looking for its female lead (the part was initially written for Angelina Jolie) and another big-name male lead.
Gordon-Levitt has been receiving a steady stream of offers since blowing up last year, when he appeared in The Dark Knight Rises, starred in Looper and Premium Rush and appeared in Lincoln. Among the offers: Legendary’s Godzilla and Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. He has passed on both of them.
Rodriguez also shoots lean and mean so the Sin City filming will not be a huge commitment on the part of Gordon-Levitt, leaving him plenty of time to find more projects.
He is repped by WME and Jackoway Tyerman.
