Slash, the rocker and budding filmmaker, has teamed up with Revolver Picture Company, the genre production company behind movies such as Haunt and Beneath, to produce a horror movie that aims to launch a new scary movie franchise.
Brian Sieve (Boogeyman sequels 2 & 3) has written the script for the untitled film, and while the plot is being kept buried, it harks back to popular slasher franchises of the ‘80s like Halloween and Friday the 13th.
Slash’s involvement came about after a development meeting with Revolver’s Kelly Wagner and Nick Phillips.
“We knew he was into horror movies so we had big long dinner,” said Phillips. “He gets it, from the old Universal classics to the 70s, and yes, excitedly for us, the 80s.”
Said Wagner: “He had been thinking along similar lines as us. It was serendipitous.”
Added Slash: “They had an idea that tied in perfectly with a theme that I was working on at the time. From there, together with Brian Sieve, I think we developed something awesome.” He will produce via his production company Slash Fiction.
Slash, who made his debut as a producer on the 2013 horror movie Nothing Left to Fear, is also producing The Hell Within, written by Jeff Buhler and to be directed by Dennison Ramalho.
Revolver is a budding company with its sights firmly set on scaring audiences. Its first two movies were 2013’s Beneath and 2014’s Haunt, which were released by IFC Midnight, while Fox released their most recent film, Devil’s Backbone, Texas.
They’re also working in the scripted-series sphere and produced the web series Fight of the Living Dead (along with Alpine Labs and BlackBoxTV) for CONtv, the genre channel from Cinedigm and Wizard World that targets Comic-Con fans and is the home of Bruce Campbell’s Last Fan Standing.
They are currently in production on the psychological thriller Pet, with Dominic Monaghan, Ksenia Solo and Jennette McCurdy.
With the new project, the company is eyeing something more ambitious, in scope and budget, and sees it as a franchise starter.
Sieve is repped by Magnet Management and Stone Meyer. Slash is repped by Fortress Talent Management and attorney Victoria Cook. Revolver is repped by Paradigm and Ramo Law.
