COLOGNE, Germany – Sonia Mehandjiyska, the veteran sales executive most recently of Echo Bridge Entertainment, is moving to Munich to head up new German sales giant Global Screen, the international sales joint venture between Telepool and Bavaria Media.
Mehandjiyska, who takes up her new job Feb. 1, will oversee all film and TV world sales at Global Screen, reporting director to the company’s co-CEOs Thomas Weymar and Rolf Moser. Thorsten Ritter, currently head of Bavaria’s world sales operation Bavaria Film International, is stepping down to pursue other opportunities.
A Bulgarian native, Mehandjiyska has worked on the international sales divisions of several U.S. firms, including Gibralter International, MRG and Echo Bridge, which she joined in 2009 as vp of international sales.
“With Mrs. Mehandjiyska, we have secured a skilled and experienced hand for this crucial position,” said Thomas Weymar in a statement. “She has been at home in theatrical and TV distribution for years, speaks six languages and will decisively bolster our market position with her international background and leadership abilities.”
“I look forward to the collaboration and the challenge of being able to strengthen Global Screen’s considerable growth potential,” Mehandjiyska added.
Global Screen will have its debut at the European Film Market in Berlin (Feb. 9 -17). The company combines the rights libraries of Bavaria – which manages Bavaria Film’s catalogue as well as the entire output of German public broadcasters WDR and SWR with Telepool, whose partners include commercial giant RTL, producer/buyer Degeto and pubwebs BR, MDR and Switzerland’s SRF. Both companies also have numerous distribution and output deals with German and international partners.
