COLOGNE, Germany – Marc Rothemund, director of the Oscar-nominated Sophie Scholl: The Final Days, has signed on to direct Galapagos, the true-story adaptation of a mysterious series of killings on the Galapagos islands in the 1930s.
Galapagos is based on Margarete Wittmer’s best-selling autobiography Floreana: A Woman’s Pilgrimage to the Galapagos. Wittmer was part of a small group of German émigrés to the Galapagos. After a series of unexplained events in 1934, all of her companions were killed or vanished, leaving her the island’s sole inhabitant. Petra Luschow (The Murder Farm) will pen the screenplay. Telepool, KJ Entertainment and Tatfilm are producing. Casting is currently underway.
