JEONJU, South Korea — Director Jude Jung‘s Perfect Neighbors won two prizes at 2014 Jeonju Project Promotion (JPP), an indie-arthouse film financing event organized by the Jeonju International Film Festival (JIFF) on Saturday.
Jung will be taking home the $5,000 (5 million-won) TV5MONDE Award handed out by the French broadcaster and the $10,000 (10 million-won) Audience Award given by Jeonju IT&CT Industry Promotion Agency for her comic crime thriller, Perfect Neighbors. In the same feature category, Baby Rose, a human drama by Park Jong-keun, picked up the $10,000 (10 million-won) grand prize sponsored by the Jeonju Film Commission, FURMO DT and Jeonju IT&CT Industry Promotion Agency.
In the documentary pitching section, the grand prize went to Lee Dong-han‘s A Big Day, while the audience award was handed to Jero Yun‘s Leaving Homeland.
Grand prize winners in both categories will receive post-production support in addition to the cash prize.
The two pitching events held on Saturday attracted some 300 industry figures according to organizers, leading to over 50 meetings involving top local investors and distributors, including Lotte Entertainment, Showbox, Woori Investment and Union Investment Partners.
Since launching in 2009, JPP has yielded such successful projects as A Dream of Iron by Kelvin Kyungkun Park, which was invited to the Berlinale earlier this year. Last year, With or Without You by Hyuckjee Park was shown at the 2013 International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam.
Meanwhile, the Jeonju Project Market runs through Wednesday to promote Korean films in domestic and international markets, while JIFF runs until May 10 in the host city of Jeonju.
