The network’s coverage earned a total of 14 nominations for the awards, which will be handed out May 9 at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Frederick P. Rose Hall. Among the categories it’s nominated in are live sports special, outstanding writing and technical achievement.
In the live sports special category, the Olympics coverage will vie against ABC’s coverage of the 2016 NBA Finals (Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Golden State Warriors), ESPN’s coverage of the 2017 college football national championship playoff (Clemson Tigers vs. Alabama Crimson Tide), Fox’s coverage of the World Series (Cleveland Indians vs. Chicago Cubs) and Fox’s coverage of Super Bowl LI (New England Patriots vs. Atlanta Falcons).
Meanwhile, the live sports series category includes mentions for ESPN/ABC’s ESPN College Football, ESPN’s Monday Night Football, Fox/FS1’s NASCAR on Fox, NBC’s Sunday Night Football and Fox’s NFL on Fox.
Other programs up for multiple noms are ESPN’s SC Featured with 10 total mentions, ESPN2/ESPNU’s E: 60 (five noms), HBO’s Hard Knocks: Training Camp With the Los Angeles Rams (four), Fox’s MLB on Fox (four), CBS/TBS/TNT/TruTV’s coverage of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament (four) and Fox/FS1’s NFL on Fox (four), among others.
ESPN leads all networks with a total of 33 nominations, followed by NBC (28), Fox Sports’ FS1 (27), Fox (26), CBS (16), TNT (15), NFL Network (14), MLB Network (13), HBO (12), TBS (12) and ESPN2 (10).
As previously announced, veteran broadcaster Brent Musburger will receive the lifetime achievement award during the ceremony.
