David S. Goyer — the screenwriter behind Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice — is headed back to Gotham City for an all-new project to debut next year as the first podcast from Warner Bros. and DC’s multi-year partnership with Spotify.
The scripted drama Batman Unburied will be created by Goyer, who will also act as executive producer on the series alongside Keith Levine, president of Goyer’s Phantom Four production company. Phantom Four and Warner Bros’ Blue Ribbon Content will share development and production duties on the series.
Plot details for Batman Unburied remain under wraps, but Warners teases that the series “will explore the darker aspects of Bruce Wayne’s psychology” — perhaps unsurprising considering Goyer’s previous Batman projects.
“I’ve been a fan of narrative podcasts for some time and was looking for the right story — returning to Batman seems like the perfect opportunity,” Goyer said in a statement about the series. “We’ll be using the unique advantages of audio to dig into the more nightmarish members of the Dark Knight’s Rogues Gallery.”
“David Goyer is an exceptional talent, and we can think of no better leader to leverage the infinite possibilities of podcasting to bring the nearly 300 million Spotify users around the world a Batman saga for the ages,” added Dawn Ostroff, chief content and advertising business officer at Spotify.
Warner Bros. and Spotify announced their deal in June of this year, following a similar deal between Marvel and SiriusXM in late 2019.
