Benedict Cumberbatch Showers in Deleted ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’ Scene (Video)

That’s exactly what director J.J. Abrams posed during a Wednesday appearance on TBS’ late-night talker Conan. Addressing controversy surrounding a scene that saw Captain James T. Kirk (Chris Pine) checking out Carol Marcus (Alice Eve) in her underwear, Abrams explained that the moment was in line with Kirk’s character, though he admitted that perhaps he didn’t quite edit “the scene in the right way.”

Turns out, there was a scene left on the cutting-room floor featuring a shirtless Cumberbatch, who plays the villain in the Star Trek follow-up, that didn’t make it to the big screen.

“We had a scene with him where we saw him actually take a shower,” Abrams told Conan O’Brien. “It’s not in the movie but we have this. It’s one of those things we ended up cutting.” In true Abrams fashion, the brief moment plays against the backdrop of Star Trek-ian dramatics, with water showering over Cumberbatch as he stares ominously. When the clip ended, O’Brien quipped: “He’s not enjoying that shower very much.” Abrams replied: “That’s the shower of evil!” O’Brien had a suggestion to make the scene Star Trek Into Darkness-appropriate.

Abrams seems to have a soft spot for O’Brien. Last October, Abrams debuted a short, three-frame clip — the first footage from the movie — of Zachary Quinto‘s Spock in a volcano on Conan.
