The shoot is over and editing has commenced on Rian Johnson’s much-anticipated Star Wars: Episode VIII, but that doesn’t mean fans should expect to learn the official title of the movie just yet, according to star Daisy Ridley.
“I heard a title [for the movie], but I don’t know if it’s going to be that,” said the actress during an appearance on the My Dad Wrote a Porno podcast. “I heard the title a long time ago before we started filming, and so I feel some things have slightly tweaked during production. It’s going to be a while before it’s released, I imagine.”
Ridley is right to be cautious. Star Wars: The Force Awakens — which was named at the beginning of November 2014, 13 months before its release — was shot under a different title, revealed by Lucasfilm’s Pablo Hidalgo last year to be Shadow of the Empire.
While fans might expect a November 2016 announcement of Episode VIII‘s title based upon the 13-month-out timing of The Force Awakens being named, it’s hardly a done deal; Rogue One: A Star Wars Story had its title revealed in March 2015, almost two years ahead of that movie’s upcoming release.
One thing is for sure, however: Whenever the title is announced, fans will likely cause a great disturbance in the Force speculating on what it means.
Star Wars: Episode VIII is set to be released Dec. 15, 2017. Hopefully by that point, we’ll know the title.
