The reservation system for Disneyland’s highly anticipated Star Wars: Galaxy Edge land went live Thursday morning — and it took less than two hours for all available slots to be snapped up.
There were so many would-be visitors trying to get on the site before the system went live at 10 a.m. that there was a queue to even access Disneyland.com. “Due to high demand, you are waiting to enter Disneyland.com,” a message read in part.
By 11:50 a.m., the reservations had all been claimed.
Shortly after it was announced that Galaxy’s Edge would open May 31, Disney revealed that a no-cost reservation, in addition to a park ticket, would be needed to access the Star Wars land from May 31 through June 23. No reservation will be needed after that time.
Resort hotel guests got access to the first round of reservations — and some are still on hold for future bookers.
There were strict rules for those who did successfully obtain a reservation. The person who made the reservation had to list the names of everyone who would be in their party (up to six total per reservation). All guests will be required to have valid theme park admission in addition to their reservation information and a valid government-issued photo ID if 18 or older, according to Disney.
The 14-acre themed land will be unlike any attraction experienced before. With two state-of-the-art rides (Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance and Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run), a plethora of shops and restaurants (all in the theme of Star Wars so as not to feel like they are part of a Disney park), jaw-dropping spectacles and full-scale droids milling about, the land delivers on the ambitions Iger spoke of when announcing the park at the D23 Expo in August 2015.
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will open at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida on Aug. 29.
