Apparently, the Force is strong with Rick Rubin.
The co-founder of Def Jam Records has brought together a group of musicians including Royksopp, Flying Lotus and Rustie for a brand-new compilation titled Star Wars Headspace, in which each track is built around samples and sounds from the series of Lucasfilm space opera movies. Track titles on the album include the fan-friendly “R2 Where R U?” “EWOK PUMPP” and, of course, “Scruffy-Looking Nerfherder.”
The album also features “Jabba Flow: Rick Rubin Re-Work (feat. A-Trak),” which remixes the J.J. Abrams/Lin-Manuel Miranda collaboration from Star Wars: The Force Awakens that to date has not received an official release.
Star Wars Headspace, which will be released by Disney’s Hollywood Records and Rubin’s American Recordings, will be available digitally Feb. 19 with physical formats following March 18. Previews of Rubin’s own “NR-G7,” as well as two other tracks from the album, are already available via Apple Music.
