The Americans producer Stephen Schiff will oversee the series, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. The series stars Diego Luna as Cassian Andor, and will follow the Rebel spy during the early days of the Rebellion.
Schiff shared two best drama series Emmy nominations during his tenure on The Americans. The 1980s-set spy series wrapped up after six seasons in May. On the big screen, his most recent screenwriting credits include 2017’s American Assassin and 2010’s Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps.
When the series was announced earlier this month, Luna said of reprising his role, “We have a fantastic adventure ahead of us, and this new exciting format will give us the chance to explore this character more deeply.”
The untitled Star Wars spinoff is the second series Lucasfilm is developing in a galaxy far, far away for Disney+. It also has Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian, which stars Pedro Pascal, Nick Nolte and Gina Carano. That series takes place after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order.
Disney+ is being positioned as a Netflix rival and is eying a 2019 launch. It will also include new shows featuring Marvel Cinematic Universe stars, such as Tom Hiddleston as Loki, as well as original features such as the upcoming Lady and the Tramp remake.
