Best Worst Thing That Ever Could Have Happened, a documentary that chronicles the creation of Stephen Sondheim’s Merrily We Roll Along, has been acquired by Abramorama for theatrical distribution.
Best Worst Thing was directed by original Merrily We Roll Along castmember Lonny Price, and features interviews with Sondheim, Harold Prince and original castmembers including Jason Alexander and Tony-winner Tonya Pinkin.
The doc will have its world premiere at the New York Film Festival in early October.
Bruce David Klein, Price, Kitt Lavoie and Ted Schillinger produced Best Worst Thing, while theater and film mega-producer Scott Rudin executive produced the project along with Eli Bush.
Abramorama recently released Ron Howard’s documentary The Beatles: Eight Days a Week — The Touring Years.
“What a privilege it is to help get this wonderful film out into the world,” Richard Abramowitz, president of Abramorama, said Wednesday in a statement. “First a film about The Beatles and now one about Stephen Sondheim. Short of Beethoven rising from the grave, it can’t get any better than this.”
Best Worst Thing is set to be released in theaters Nov. 18 in New York and Nov. 25 in Los Angeles.
