Steve Bartman Doc Added to Tribeca Film Festival Lineup

New films from Hong Kong director Tsui Hark, actress Vera Farmiga making her directorial debut and British filmmaker Michael Winterbottom, as well as documentaries about such disparate subjects as rocker Ozzy Osbourne, Broadway legend Carol Channing and transgender tennis player Renee Richards, are among the movies that will play the 10th edition of the Tribeca Film Festival, which runs from Apr. 20-May 1 in New York City.

STORY: Tribeca announces competition lineup

The fest announced on Monday the line-up of its Spotlight section, comprised of 16 docs and 17 narrative films from around the world. Sixteen of the films will receive their world premiere at the festival.

The world premieres includes the comedy A Good Old Fashioned Orgy, written and directed by Peter Huyck and Alex Gregory, and starring Jason Sudeikis, about a group of friends who descend on a Hamptons beach house for a weekend party; The Good Doctor, a psychological thriller directed by Lance Daly and starring Orlando Bloom; Puncture, a legal drama directed by Adam Kassen and Mark Kassen, starring Chris Evans; and Chris Paine’s documentary Revenge of the Electric Car, a follow-up to his 2006 film Who Killed the Electric Car?.

The narrative line-up includes such films as Tsui’s Detective Dee and the Mystery of the Phantom Flame (Di Renjie), a period film that include both mystery tale and action sequences; Farmiga’s Higher Ground, an adaptation of Carolyn S. Brigg’s feminist memoir, in which the actress-turned-director also stars; and Winterbottom’s comedy The Trip, starring Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon as themselves as they explore England’s Lake District.

Osbourne is the subject of the doc God Bless Ozzy Osbourne, directed by Mike Fleiss and Mike Piscitelli; Channing is spotlighted in Carol Channing: Larger than Life, directed by Dori Berinstein; and Richards’ life story is told in Renee, directed by Eric Drath.

Two films that debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival have been slated in the Special Screenings section: Steven Silver’s The Bang Bang Club, about combat photographers in South Africa, and Dan Rush’s Everything Must Go, starring Will Ferrell in an adaptation of the Raymond Carver short story Why Don’t You Dance?.

Tribeca has programmed eight films in its Cinemania genre programming ranging from the retro sci-fi feature Beyond the Black Rainbow, from Canada and Italy,  to the Norwegian monster movie Trollhunter.

Additionally, the Tribeca/ESPN Sports Film festival within the festival will present six documentaries, including Alex Gibney’s Catching Hell.
