LONDON – Writer-director Conor McMahon is ratcheting up plans for horror comedy Stitches, casting British cult comedian Ross Noble to star.
McMahon’s latest outing in the horror comedy genre has also secured the acting chops of Tommy Knight, a regular from TV shows Doctor Who and The Sarah Jane Adventures.
The project will be produced by Dublin based banner Fantastic Films and is backed by Chicago based distributor and producer MPI Media Group with cash also coming from the Irish Film Board.
Fantastic Films, run by John McDonnell and Brendan McCarthy, counts a host of genre titles on its resume including Hammer Films’ Wake Wood and Outcast.
McMahon is the writer-director of genre movies such as Disturbed, Dead Meat and the TV series Zombie Bashers.
Stitchesis billed as a macabre story and details the tale of Richard ‘Stitches’ Grindle, a jaded workaday kids’ birthday clown, who falls victim to a fatal party mishap at the hands of a group of particularly nasty children.
Years later, the group of now teenagers attend a party at which Stitches is the uninvited guest of honor, returning to avenge his untimely death. McMahon also wrote the script.
MPI Media Group exec vp Greg Newman said: “McMahon has revealed a unique cinematic vision and as he brings a fresh and twisted take to the genre, we’re excited to bring his next wild ride into production.”
The plan is for a theatrical release in the U.S. followed by VOD and DVD rollouts.
MPI Media Group’s recent production roster includes The Innkeepers, Stake Land, Hatchet 2, The House of the Devil, and upcoming Hatchet 3 and Frankenstein’s Army.
